Get ready to live out the fantasy of every 6-year-old boy — climbing around fire trucks, meeting real-life heroes, and getting an up-close look at the exciting world of firefighting.
Fire Service Day is back on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fire Station 1 on 7th Street. It’s a free, family-friendly open house packed with hands-on fun and behind-the-scenes access.
Kids (and kids at heart) can meet and take pictures with Santa Monica’s Bravest, explore emergency equipment, and even pick up a few life-saving skills along the way. Because hey, you never know…
The day will also feature a live auto extrication demo and a CPR demonstration by the American Red Cross.
As a bonus, attendees can snap a photo with the U.S. Women’s Open trophy ahead of the tournament at Riviera Country Club this June. And come hungry — the first 500 guests will score free meals courtesy of Heavy Handed LA.
Fire Station 1, the busiest in Santa Monica, serves the downtown core and responded to more than 17,000 calls in 2025 alone. It’s also home to the department’s iconic ladder truck, which will be front and center during the event.
SMFD also offers station tours and ongoing fire and life safety education events throughout the year.
