Carjack Police Search

Police went door to door near the crash scene Friday morning, looking for a suspect who remains at large.

Crime never sleeps!

A late night police chase in Santa Monica led to the capture of one suspect wanted in an armed robbery and carjacking at La Condessa restaurant.

The victim is believed to be a valet parking attendant.

Eyewitnesses report seeing eight to 10 Santa Monica Police vehicles speeding down Wilshire Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Friday, in pursuit of a dark blue Mitsubishi sedan.

After turning north onto 26th Street, the vehicle crashed and the suspects fled on foot into the residential neighborhood.

“They must have been going 90 mph down California west to east,” one neighbor tells The Sun.  “There are 100 plus feet of skid marks!”

SMPD established a perimeter around the crash scene and quickly apprehended Steve Bryan Brown, 21, of Anaheim.  He was carrying a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun, according to a statement issued by Police Lt. Rudy Flores.

Brown was found hiding in a trash can at the south end of the alley between Princeton Street and 26th Street.

“He was clearly injured in the accident because there was a lot of blood,” a witness tells The Sun.

Brown was taken into custody without incident and booked for robbery, carjacking and kidnapping.

A second suspect, described as a black male, 25 – 30 year-old, 5’9” – 6’0”, 150-185 lbs. remains at large.

At daylight, law enforcement was photographed going door to door searching homes in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact SMPD.
