iPic Theaters has officially shut down its Westwood and Pasadena locations, ending the run of its upscale dine-in cinema concept in the region.

The Westwood venue — the closest to Santa Monica — reopened today as The Cinemas under new ownership by Blue Fox Theaters.

“Earlier this year, IPIC announced plans to pursue a court-supervised sale through Chapter 11 voluntary bankruptcy,” the company said in an email to members. “Through that process, Blue Fox Theaters emerged as the successful bidder to acquire our Westwood location.”

In a bit of good news, Blue Fox will retain the entire iPic staff at the Westwood theater.

Known for its reclining pod seating, blankets, and in-theater dining service, iPic aimed to elevate the traditional moviegoing experience with restaurant-quality meals and a full bar. Those amenities are now gone — the kitchen has closed, food will no longer be served in auditoriums, and a more traditional concession stand will be introduced.

The Tuck Room restaurant will also be rebranded with a new menu.

According to a statement on iPic.com, refunds will not be issued for prepaid memberships, and unused gift card balances will only be honored where required by law.

The Pasadena location screened its final film Wednesday night and appears to be permanently closed.

Meanwhile, iPic locations in Texas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, and Maryland have been acquired by Cinemex Holding USA and will continue operating under the iPic brand. The closure leaves the Westside without a direct replacement for iPic’s luxury dine-in experience, though AMC’s dine-in theater in Marina del Rey remains open as the next best thing.
