The Win~Dow is bringing discount burgers to one of Santa Monica’s most expensive neighborhoods.
Not exactly the most obvious pairing, but that’s part of the charm.
The Venice-born burger joint will welcome hungry diners beginning Tuesday, June 9, at the corner of 10th Street and Montana Avenue. Founded in 2019 by Paul Hibler and Jeff Goodman, the concept started as a literal service window just a few miles south in Venice. By the end of the pandemic, The Win~Dow had turned into a Southern California obsession, with additional locations now in Hollywood, Silver Lake and Long Beach.
The formula is straightforward: affordable $4.50 smashburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, grain bowls, salads and a few other crowd-pleasers, all served with little fuss and plenty of good vibes. Its signature cheeseburgers come wrapped in paper and priced far below what you would expect to find on a street lined with upscale boutiques and expensive real estate.
That contrast is what makes the opening so interesting. Montana Avenue is one of Santa Monica’s priciest shopping corridors, a place where polished storefronts and high-end retail are part of the appeal. The Win~Dow, by contrast, is a no-frills burger stand built on value, speed and a little bit of attitude.
Tuesday’s grand opening will feature a free double cheeseburger with any purchase, followed by daily promotions that include half-off bowls and fries, $5 breakfast burritos, discounted drinks and a BOGO milkshake day. The weeklong celebration is designed to keep the buzz going long after opening day.
The Win~Dow is part of American Gonzo Food Corp, which also operates Pitfire Pizza, Superba and American Beauty. The brand has already shown it can expand beyond Venice without losing its personality. Now it gets to test whether its bargain burger charm can thrive on a street where even the window shopping feels expensive.
