Michael J. Fox is very much not dead!
The beloved star of Family Ties and Back to the Future headed straight to social media today to laugh off a televised report that led many fans to believe he had passed away.
“How do you react when you turn on the TV and CNN is reporting your death?” the actor, 64, wrote on his Threads account. “Do you… A) switch to MSNBC, or whatever they are calling themselves these days, (B) Pour scolding hot water on your lap, if it hurts your fine, (C) Call your wife, hopefully she’s concerned but reassuring, (D) Relax, they do this once every year, (E) Ask yourself wtf?”
The father of three was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s in 1991. At the time he was given a timeline of about ten years to continue working.
It is not uncommon for news organizations to prepare tributes to well known celebrities before their deaths. The now deleted CNN clip titled “Remembering the Life of Michael J. Fox” was “published in error,” according to a network spokesperson, who added, “we have removed it from our platforms and send our apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family.”
Fox has made several appearances in the fifth (and current) season of Apple TV’s hit series Shrinking.
