It’s time to set sail!
The annual Cardboard Yacht Regatta returns to Santa Monica this weekend and all aspiring sailors are encouraged to attend.
For the eighth year, teams of all ages will test their ingenuity in crafting homemade cardboard yachts and getting them across the historic Annenberg Community Beach House pool.
This is the first year the Regatta will be held during the day and the pool will be closed for recreation swim.
WHEN: Saturday, August 28, 2021, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
WHERE: Annenberg Community Beach House, 415 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA 90402 (enter parking lot at Beach House Way traffic light)
WHAT: Two-person teams test the seaworthiness of their homemade cardboard yachts in a race across the historic Annenberg Community Beach House pool. Prior to race day, teams construct yachts from corrugated cardboard and duct tape, and decorate them with a creative theme. Participants bring their yachts to the Annenberg Community Beach House on race day to paddle their way across the length of the pool as spectators cheer them on. Awards are given in a variety of fun categories.
ENTRY FEE: $20 per team.
COVID SAFETY: This event will follow LA County Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 protocols. Please do not attend if you have been exposed to or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Unvaccinated persons are strongly recommended to wear a mask during the event. All persons are required to wear a mask when indoors.
