Pet lovers in Santa Monica, brace yourselves: the Unleashed by Petco at 1402 Wilshire Boulevard is shutting down for good on March 2.
A sign on the door confirms the closure, marking the end of this neighborhood favorite known for its smaller store vibe, stocked with pet food, treats, and accessories.
This closure aligns with Petco’s broader reorganization: the company shuttered 25 stores in 2025 and the same number in 2024. The exact number of remaining Unleashed stores nationwide is unclear.
Local pet owners can head to the nearby full-service Petco on Wilshire Boulevard at the corner of Yale Street, which offers grooming, veterinary services, and a wider product range. While the bigger store provides options, Unleashed offered a convenient, community-focused spot for everyday pet needs.
The news has sparked sadness among regulars who valued the store’s approachable atmosphere. With just over two weeks left, now’s the time to grab those last-minute supplies.
