One of Santa Monica’s most beloved businesses will soon be shuttered.

Ursula’s Costumes (2516 Wilshire Blvd.) has posted signage on their front window — and their website — announcing a “Closing Down Sale.”

Originally opened in 1976, Ursula’s has been the west side’s go-to spot for costumes, wigs, masks and more.  The store houses hundreds of themes to choose from.  Sadly, the legendary “work room,” where many creations were sewn by hand, has been closed for some time.

“Business is really, really slow,” owner Ursula Boschet, 89, told the Daily Press. “The lease has been up for quite some time. I pay month by month, but I couldn’t pay the full amount [that is owed].”

Boschet plans to announce an exact closing date in the next week.
