It’s L.A.’s first and only canine social club. DogPPL — often described as a “Soho House for dogs” — is a members-only sanctuary that has reimagined the pooch park experience by prioritizing safety, hygiene, and human comfort.
The concept was born in 2021, amidst the “pandemic puppy” boom. Co-founders Alex Esguerra and Liam Underwood met at a public dog park but found themselves frustrated by the lack of accountability, aggressive dogs, and poor sanitation. “We wanted to create a space where people felt completely at ease,” Esguerra says. “It’s about safety first, but also about building a real community where you know every dog has been vetted.”
Unlike public parks, every dog must pass a temperament evaluation and provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations before entering. Once inside, the experience is managed by trained “Rufferees” who monitor play styles to prevent conflicts. The grounds feature distinct heating-mitigation turf and an advanced sanitation system to ensure cleanliness.
Human guests can enjoy free high-speed Wi-Fi, a café and bar serving beer and wine, and comfortable lounge seating. A brand new clubhouse, which also features a dog friendly gift shop, opened in December 2025.
