St. Monica Prep packed up their firepower—and an enthusiastic crowd of traveling fans — and headed to Montebello Friday night, laying a 62-21 beating on Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary.
After falling behind 7-0 early, the Mariners’ offense broke loose on a 56-6 scoring run. Quarterback Bradley Cassier put on an absolute air show, firing six touchdown passes—including four bombs to Kailan Booker and individual scoring strikes to Aaron Minter and Martin Tate.
Jade Mayes chipped in a 4-yard TD walk-in during the first-half onslaught, while Cassier, Christopher Barnes, and Sergio Ortiz repeatedly punished the home team by executing three separate 2-point conversions.
Defensively, monster lineman Giovannie Sotomayor set a physical, relentless tone, pouncing on a key fumble to complement Kohaku Inatsugi’s first-quarter interception as the Mariners completely locked down CSHM.
Second-half breakaway rushing scores from Joshua Morris (29 yards) and Christian Ortiz (44 yards) capped off the road victory.
St. Monica (5-1) appears to be inching closer to the Camino Real crown.
They’ll return home next Friday to face perhaps another strong contender, Mary Star of the Sea, in a high-stakes Homecoming battle at Corsair Field.
