Santa Monica is about to lose two more Starbucks.
The coffee giant is closing its stores at 2901 Main St. and 1030 Wilshire Blvd. on Saturday, Sept. 26. Employees at the locations were notified Friday.
The closures are part of a wider shake-up that will shutter roughly 250 Starbucks coffeehouses across the United States and Canada. The company has not released an official store-by-store list, but both Santa Monica addresses appear on a list compiled from Starbucks’ posted store hours and have also been identified in local reporting.
Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said the chain targeted stores where it could not consistently deliver the experience it wants for customers and employees, or where it saw no “path to acceptable financial performance.”
The company has not said which of those reasons applies to either Santa Monica location.
“Closing any coffeehouse is a difficult decision,” Grams wrote in a message to employees.
Starbucks says it will try to transfer affected workers to other stores and provide severance support to those it cannot place.
The latest cuts come a year after the company closed its location at 2525 Wilshire Blvd.
The company will continue to operate at the following standalone locations as well as inside several major supermarkets:
- 2461 Santa Monica. Blvd.
- 701 Montana Ave.
- 2727 Pico Blvd.
- 1356 3rd Street Promenade
- 1900 Lincoln Blvd.
- 3032 Lincoln Blvd.
