Northeast Neighbors

Northeast Neighbors is one of seven volunteer-run neighborhood associations dedicated to keeping residents informed about the issues shaping local life in Santa Monica. The organization operates as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit and invites neighbors from across the city to take part in its meetings and civic conversations.

The group’s mission is to bring neighbors together and work collectively to improve the quality of life in their community. Its longtime mantra — “Democracy is not a spectator sport” — reflects a hands-on approach to local involvement and public discussion.

Northeast Neighbors holds its meetings on the first Monday evening of each month at 7 p.m. via Zoom, with guest speakers that often include City Council members, city staff, state legislators, and other experts on issues that matter to residents. The organization encourages community members to attend, listen, ask questions, and stay engaged with what is happening in the neighborhood and across Santa Monica.

The Northeast neighborhood covers the area between Wilshire Boulevard and Montana Avenue, stretching from 22nd Street to Centinela Avenue. While the organization focuses on that part of the city, residents from throughout Santa Monica are welcome to join and participate.

In 2025 Northeast Neighbors was one of three neighborhood groups to reject a yearly $7000 grant from the City of Santa Monica.  The funds, had they been accepted, would have allowed the City to place restrictions on how the group conducted outreach in the community.
