Public Hearing NoticeThe Pacific Dining Car — a staple in Santa Monica for 30 years — may soon become a 24 hour veterinary hospital.

A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 12 to consider allowing Veterinary Emergency Group, to take over the storied westside location.

VEG currently operates in 27 locations across the United States, including Encinitas and San Ramon, California.

The location at 2700 Wilshire Boulevard would not offer traditional veterinary services such as vaccines, spaying and neutering.

“Emergency is all we do, and that’s why we do it best,” the company boasts on its official website.

“VEG is a true partner with your primary vet, acting as an extension of their practice for after-hours emergency care.”

The company claims to set it self apart from other practices by allowing pet owners to consult with a doctor by phone, see a doctor before filling out paperwork and remain with their pets through the entire visit.

VEG was founded in 2014 by Dr. David Bessler, who has since gained fame teaching children about his love of animals as “Dr. Dave” on Sesame Street.

Pacific Dining Car closed in June, 2020.
