Lace ’em up! The inaugural Venice Beach Half Marathon & 5K is set to hit the ground running on Sunday, May 18.
The event will begin at 2600 Barnard Way and take participants past many of the city’s iconic landmarks — Muscle Beach, the Venice canals and Ocean Front Walk — before concluding under the world famous Venice sign at Windward Avenue and Pacific.
Stops along the route will include VIP beer garden at Belle’s Beach House and a performance of “Greased Lightning” in front of Venice High School (which was used as a filming location for the classic 1978 movie).
The event will also serve as a fundraising opportunity for local schools in Venice and Mar Vista.” says Marketing Director and co-organizer Michelle Lindner. “Public schools are pillars in every community and are important to individuals whether or not they have a child attending a school. It’s our job to emphasize the importance of thriving public schools and create a space to fundraise for each school. We are excited to do just that. Having lived in Venice for twenty years, we are thrilled to create this opportunity for our community.”
The half marathon begins at 7:10 a.m. The 5K starts at 8:00 a.m. and is followed by a one mile Junior Jog and Family Walk at 8:30 a.m.
Three thousand participants of all ages are expected. Registration is currently open at www.RunVeniceBeach.com.
