A suicide on the I-10 Freeway in Santa Monica stopping westbound traffic for more than two hours Thursday.
A man leapt from the 4th street overpass landing on top of a passing vehicle, SMPD has confirmed.
Officers were called to the scene at 1:57 PM.
“The reporting party informed dispatch that they observed a male at the 4th Street overpass hugging the guardrail,” said Lieutenant Rudy Flores reported. “The male then jumped over onto the westbound lanes, striking a vehicle as he landed.”
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Santa Monica Fire Department.
The man’s identity was not available at press time.
All lanes were reopened just after 4:40 PM.
This was the third public suicide in Santa Monica this year. In January, a man jumped to his death from downtown Parking structure 7.
The following month, a woman jumped from downtown Parking Structure 8.
