The Santa Monica Pier isn’t closing — but getting there by car will require a slight detour.
Appian Way, which serves the south side of the Pier parking lot, will be closed to all vehicles from July 27 through Aug. 3 as crews demolish part of the aging Pier Bridge. The closure will affect the entire area beneath the bridge just north of Seaside Terrace.
Despite the construction, the Pier –– including all restaurants, shops, rides, and attractions –– will remain fully open, the City confirmed on Monday.
Drivers can still reach Parking Lot 1 North via Pacific Coast Highway, and additional parking is available at nearby Beach Lots 3 North and 4 South, as well as Parking Structure 8. Pedestrian access to the Pier and Ocean Front Walk will remain open, with signage guiding visitors through the area.
Officials recommend planning ahead, allowing extra travel time, and considering transit or rideshare options. The Big Blue Bus and Metro E Line both provide easy access within walking distance of the Pier.
The temporary closure is part of the Pier Bridge Replacement Project, which will upgrade the nearly 90-year-old structure while keeping the iconic destination accessible during construction.
