Is Karen Carpenter the G.O.A.T.

At least according to Twitter.

The beloved singer — who died from complications related to anorexia in 1983 — is crushing rival Madonna in a passionate debate that began early Thursday morning.

The Official Account of “Bad” Brad Berkwitt kicked things off with a simple prompt: “Karen Carpenter of Madonna? These are the two choices.. No ties… If you don’t like either, keep scrolling!”

Within hours, fans of 1970s mellow pop began pouncing on The Material Girl.

“Are you kidding me? Madge ain’t even in Karen Carpenter’s league,” wrote one user.

“Pretty sure Madonna would tell you it’s Karen Carpenter,” added another.

Here’s a few more comments in support of the “Close To You” singer:

“Madonna is an icon but Karen is a one in a billion talent that transcends time. IMO”

“Karen Carpenter had a once in a generation voice. madonna cannot compare in raw talent. madge is a great entertainer, so no shade, but facts are facts.”

“Karen Carpenter could sing and had an amazing voice! Madonna sold sex to sell her music. Some good songs but she’s never had a great voice!”

“Comparing Karen Carpenter to Madonna is like comparing MLK to Orange Hitler.”

Carpenter became a worldwide superstar in the 1970s performing songs like “Superstar,” “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Top of The World” with her brother, Richard.

She died February 4, 1983 at age 32.

Just months later, Maddona Louis Ciccone burst onto the American pop charts with a seemingly endless stream of dance hits: “Borderline,” “Like A Virgin,” “Papa Don’t Preach” and more.

She went on to appear in 27 feature films and three Broadway stage shows.

But when it came to vocal skills, the Twitter mob has overwhelmingly sided with Carpenter.
