A police helicopter that woke up hundreds of residents in the middle of the night was helping to stop an individual from committing suicide.
The Santa Monica Police Department and Los Angeles Police Department teamed up to save the life of an unidentified man threatening to jump from the roof of an office building near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and 19th Street, The Sun has learned.

The individual reportedly stabbed himself in the stomach then phoned 911 just after 3:00 a.m. Friday.
“The subject was located on the roof with the assistance of an LAPD airship,” according to Santa Monica Police spokesperson Rudy Flores.
“SMPD Officers were able to make phone contact with the male, and eventually contacted him on the roof, where they discovered he had a laceration to the abdomen area. SMFD treated him on scene and he was transported to a local hospital. Last I heard, he is in stable condition and recovering in the hospital.”
