The Santa Monica Pier was closed for several hours Tuesday (February 6) as police investigated a bomb threat.

An alert was issued to the community just before 10:30 AM.  After an extensive investigation, the city’s most recognizable landmark was reopened to the public two hours later.

“After a comprehensive search, we’ve found no threat and are preparing to reopen the Pier shortly,” the SMPD said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“We’re steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety of our community. Thank you for your understanding during the closure. As always, we encourage vigilance – if you see something say something.”

The city estimates more than 10 million people visit the pier every year, with the majority arriving during summer months.  Approximately one in five visitors are from overseas.

The carrier insists it will not sell the data it collects or use it for any other purpose.
