In another huge blow to the City of Santa Monica, the American Film Market (AFM) is leaving town after 33 years.
The Independent Film & Television Alliance made the announcement Friday (March 10). The 2024 marketplace will take place at the Palms Casino Resort beginning November 5.
AFM was long held at the Loews Hotel on Ocean Avenue. Last year, headquarters for the event briefly moved to the Le Meridien Delfina on Pico Boulevard.
“After extensive research, discussions with the board and invaluable feedback from stakeholders, this move underscores our determination to evolving AFM to meet today’s industry needs,” IFTA chairperson Clay Epstein said in a statement.
In addition to cheaper hotels, The Palms is also able to offer a 14 screen on-site multiplex and 170,000 square feet of conference space.
