Just what did Ricky Gervais know — and when?
The sharp tongued comic seemed to be sending a (not so) subliminal message to the year 2021 when he hosted last year’s Golden Globe Awards.
A video of the seven minute set is again making its way around social media, this time in the wake of NBC’s decision to stop broadcasting the ceremony until it becomes more ethnically diverse.
“Many talented people of color were snubbed in major categories,” Gervais commented. “There’s nothing we can do about that. The Hollywood Foreign Press are very very racist.”

The comic also joked that he personally decided to scrap the popular In Memoriam segment over lack of inclusion.
“I saw the list of people that died, it wasn’t diverse enough they just know it was mostly white people,” he joked. “I though ‘not on my watch.’”
2020 marked the fifth time Gervais helmed the show.
“I don’t care anymore,” he told the audience. “I’m joking. I never did. NBC clearly don’t care either.”
Or do they?

Last week, the peacock network took a stand in response to a report in the Los Angeles Times which noted that none of the associations 90 members are Black.
Though this information has been public for many years, the pressure comfort to diversity cries from viewers appeared to no longer be avoidable.
“Everything matters. Even this. The ripple effects echo through our industry, especially for Black artists and artists of color. Kudos to all the activists, artists, publicists and executives who took a stand to make this so,” Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay wrote on Twitter.
Actor Tom Cruise returned Globes statues he received for “Magnolia,” “Jerry Maguire” and “Born on the Fourth of July.”
