Ocean Avenue is getting a rare makeover this summer—ditching cars for art, music and drinks.
Art on Ocean will shut down a stretch between California Avenue and Montana Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 8, transforming the street into a walkable, oceanfront festival packed with more than 100 artists, live bands, and a full-on summer street party vibe.
Think paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, and mixed-media work—all lined up along the bluff, all available to buy directly from the artists.
“Santa Monica deserves a free art show that stands alongside the best in Southern California,” said Jenny Rice, Art on Ocean event organizer with Beach Native Marketing & Events. “After producing street festivals for years, I’ve learned that great events give people a reason to stay and explore. That’s why Art on Ocean brings together exceptional artists, live music, DJs, a wine garden, great food, and interactive experiences. It’s more than an art show. It’s a community celebration centered around art.”
Live music will run all day, jumping from classical violin to Latin jazz to country and dance sets, with performances from Nick Kennerly, Mudslide Mojo, La Compania, and Country House Party.
There’s also a wine garden — because of course there is — featuring pours from Divine Vintage, a full bar by Thirst Trap, DJs, and a paint-and-sip setup overlooking the ocean. Food vendors will include Blue Plate Taco, Triple Beam Pizza, and Ubatuba Açaí.
The event is family friendly. A kids’ zone will offer hands-on art, face painting, and activities, while Santa Monica Paint Lab hosts free workshops throughout the day.
After dark, a free screening of Jumanji will roll in Palisades Park.
It’s one of those rare days where Ocean Avenue is actually built for people, not traffic.
