For a cool half million bucks, you could be the new owner of Santa Monica’s Color Me Mine.

The pottery painting business located at 2525 Main Street has quietly been for sale for years, the store’s manager revealed in an interview with the Santa Monica Daily Press.  The current owner, she said, “has a lot going on … and she just can’t, she can’t do this.”

Color Me Mine describes itself as a “family business” that began with a single store in San Mateo, California and has now grown to over 150 studios.

Per the company website:  “Color Me Mine’s unique concept offers the franchise owner a business that requires low start-up capital, is fun to operate, is difficult to compete against, and that makes a worthwhile contribution to the community. Even after factoring in the 5% royalty and 1% national marketing fund contribution, Color Me Mine franchise owners enjoy a lower cost of goods sold and lower studio operating expenses than independent studio operators average.”

Back in August, the Santa Monica franchise attracted attention for all the wrong reasons when an employee was caught dumping ceramic glaze into a city storm drain.  Social media outrage over the incident lead to prank phone calls and death threats directed toward employees.
