The cost of travel is on the rise again.

American Airlines announced today that it is once again raising fees — this time on baggage. Effective immediately, it will cost $40 to check your first bag ($35 if you pre-pay online). The 33 percent increase is the airline’s first since 2018.
Second checked bags will set you back $45.
The airline also made changes to the way passengers will earn loyalty miles, requiring them to book directly through the airline or preferred ticketing agents.
