Sweet Lady Jane closed all six of its Los Angeles bake shops on December 31, 2023.
Sweet Lady Jane — the Montana Avenue bakery beloved by Hollywood A-listers like Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston — was embroiled in a class action lawsuit with its employees for at least seven months, according new new legal documents uncovered by the Los Angeles Times.
The bakery, which received a $2 million investment from Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen in 2014, is accused of engaging in “a pattern and practice of wage abuse against their hourly-paid or non-exempt employees,” the lawsuit reads.
Former employee Blanca Juarez told the paper she was not properly compensated for all hours worked, including overtime and breaks.
Sweet Lady Jane abruptly announced it was closing all of its six locations on December 31 after 35 years in business.
