The Samohi varsity football team is off to a perfect start — without playing a single down.
The Vikings were handed a 1-0 forfeit victory Thursday after Westchester abruptly forfeited Friday night’s scheduled season opener.
The athletic department posted an official cancellation notice on social media just before 3:00 pm, disappointing thousands of fans and students on their first day back to school.

No reason was immediately given for Westchester’s withdrawal, though early-season prep football forfeits often stem from eligibility problems, paperwork holdups or a shortage of players cleared to take the field.
The freebie puts Samohi atop the Westside standings — at least for now.
Santa Monica’s season debut will now take place Friday, August 28, when the Vikings travel to La Cañada for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Spartans.
