Santa Monica Recreation and Parks Commission

.
The Santa Monica Recreation and Parks Commission, part of the larger Community Recreation Division, advises City Council and City staff on matters related to recreation and use of public open space.  It also manages local parks, beaches, and community facilities to provide active-living programs, sports leagues day camps and other programs. They oversee activities for all ages, issue facility permits, and oversee major recreational hubs like the Santa Monica Swim Center and Annenberg Community Beach House.

Per the City’s official website:

“The Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and Director of Community Services in all matters pertaining to public recreation including playgrounds, music and entertainment. The Commission will consider the budget of the Community and Cultural Services Department and make recommendations to the City Manager and the City Council. The Commission will also assist in the planning and promotion of a recreation program for residents and solicit the cooperation of school authorities and other public and private agencies.”

The Recreation and Parks Commission meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers, 1685 Main Street.
