A bizarre chicken war has hatched in Marina Del Rey.

It appears Brennan’s Pub — ’til now most famous for its late night turtle racing — is trying to ruffle the feathers of a Chik-fil-A outpost across the street.

“HEY CHICKEN PLACE, PEOPLE DON’T FORGET.  HATE FREE BIRD SOLD HERE,”operators of the bar posted last week on their marquee facing north on Lincoln Blvd.

Oddly, when contacted by The Sun, a Brennan’s manager named Sean didn’t seem to know exactly what the message was all about.

“I am not exactly sure of the details,” he said.  “Something about a big chicken place nearby is promoting hate speech.  So I think that is what it is about.  I am not exactly sure who put it up. It is definitely a joke.”

Or is it?

Chick-fil-A is no stranger to public scrutiny.   For much of the past decade, the chain has faced backlash and boycotts from LGBT groups, generally due to CEO Dan Cathy’s opposition to same sex marriage.

Perhaps that’s why the shift manager on duty Tuesday morning didn’t seem concerned about this latest public lashing.

Not that I know of.  Nothing to do with Brennans honestly.

“I haven’t heard anything about us doing anything to anyone else,” he told The Sun.  We’re just trying to run our business, you know?  It is nonchalant to me.  People do their thing.”

Brennan’s first opened in 1972 and has been a popular destination in the Venice – Marina del Rey are for years.  Brennan’s has reopened for on-site dining but is limiting groups to six people, per a notice posted on its official website.
