Stick a fork in it!
Belcampo — the pricy westside butcher shop exposed last spring for passing off ordinary deli meat as organic and grass fed — appears to have hung up its cleavers.
A sign written in red crayon greeted customers at 1026 Wilshire Boulevard with four simple words: “Closed for business. Sorry.”
Belcampo was a popular business with outposts in five southern California cities, including Santa Monica, Culver City and Los Angeles.
They would frequently charge as much as $30 per pound for meats that were advertised as being organic, grass fed and grown on a private farm.
But in May, disgruntled former employee Evan Reiner blew the lid off the operation when he revealed that the company had been “lying to your face” and posted video of the company passing off ordinary supermarket meats as its own.
Belcampo has now ceased all restaurant, retail and e-commerce operations and reportedly used text messages to inform employees they were being terminated.
