The Clydesdales will stay in the stable this year.

Budweiser announced today that it will not advertise during the Super Bowl for the first time in 38 years.

America’s biggest selling beer brand joins Coke and Pepsi on the sidelines this year.

Bud’s marketing dollars will instead be redirected to Ad Council and COVID Collaborative Vaccine Education Initiative, a public health communication campaign and additional efforts to support vaccine adoption efforts.

Per CNBC:

As of Friday, roughly 39 million vaccines doses had been distributed and only 19.1 million administered, falling well short of the targets set by the federal government.

In the week leading up to Super Bowl LV, Budweiser plans to run its Super Bowl ad digitally. The spot focuses on resilient Americans during the coronavirus pandemic, including a group of health-care workers who were the first to receive the vaccine. Actress Rashida Jones, known for her roles in “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation,” will narrate the spot.

Parent company Anheuser Busch will still have four minutes of airtime during the broadcast which will be used to promote Bud Light, Bud Light Seltzer and Michelob Ultra.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Sunday, February 7.

The contest will be aired on CBS.
